Gwendolyn Kulick, Dipl. Des. (UdK Berlin) is a design researcher and a PhD candidate, supervised by Prof. Dr. Brigitte Wolf at the Department of Industrial Design at Wuppertal University. Between 2004 and 2015 she established and headed the Department of Visual Communication Design at Beaconhouse National University in Lahore in Pakistan. Her interest lies in design practices in and between different cultural contexts. In her research she explores design strategies that support the transition from aid projects to social business models and sustainable economic empowerment, on the example of craft projects in Pakistan’s grassroots development sector. A focus lies on the interaction patterns of the involved people, highly diverse in background, knowledge, skill and access to opportunity.
