Helga Aichmaier currently lives and works in Vienna. She takes a great interest in »Entwurfsforschung« (related to »Bildwissenschaften«/»Image Science«) and design research (German term »Designforschung«). At the University of Arts and Design Linz in Austria, Department of Art History and Art Theory, she recently finished her PhD project. With the dissertation »Strategies of an Image Practice. Photographic Design Processes in the Documentation of Public Places«, Helga Aichmaier analyses strategies of visual image production that are used within the design processes of documentary photography. She graduated at the University of applied Arts in Vienna in 2004 where she studied graphic design in the master class of Fons Hickmann (1999-2004). Worked as a freelance graphic designer in Vienna from 2004-2008 (with Walking Chair, Elisabeth Kopf and the Viennese design company »collettiva«). Moving to Basel in 2008, she carried out a study (»The Image in the Design Process«) at »eikones NCCR (National Centre of Competence in Research) Iconic Criticism«. From 2009 to 2012, she worked as a research associate at the Visual Communication Institute, Department of the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW), Academy of Art and Design (HGK) Basel as well as an associate member of »eikones NCCR Iconic Criticism«.
